Very Young Mama Cat

by James
(The rotten state of CT)

My wife brought home a kitten for me on father's day, primarily as a source of comfort due to the fact that I have been laid up with testicular damage for the past 4 months, and cannot do very much without invoking a large amount of pain.

The kitten was almost 4 months old when she was brought home. We have a tom cat that is about 10 months old that we were going to take into the vet to get fixed. We are waiting on pet vac express to make it's next visit, as the local vets are asking for almost $250 to neuter our tom cat.

When the kitten reached 5 months, we found the tom being very friendly with the kitten, and now, she is pregnant, despite not going through heat. She is roughly a month and a half into it now, and she is very obviously pregnant at this point.

Are there any specific concerns for such a young mother?

our mother cat became pregnant with her kittens at the same age and had 4 perfectly healthy strong kittens and even though some speculate young mothers abandon kittens our mother cat nursed them all equally and gave them all love and attention. I have not heard of other young mothers having difficulty either but just in case have your cat checked frequently enough by the vet just so you can stop any possible problems early on
