Update On Stray Cat and Kittens!

by Christine
(Rossford, OH, USA)

The stray cat and kittens that I had taken into my home are doing quite well and are no longer emaciated. They are all dewormed and have had a visit to the vet. But to my surprise it was the wrong cat I took to the vet. Jewel or now Jade is a male! And is not the mother of Shadow and Spirit.

So then I wondered to myself, where is the mother of the kittens? And sure enough I actually found their mother and her mate, Holly and Buddy. They were two stray cats living in the junkyard near where the kittens were found.

Holly was very skittish and hates people. When I caught her to bring her inside because I was afraid she was going to get pregnant and have her kittens in the junkyard, her attitude changed almost overnight. She was meowing and upset and then suddenly she didn't want to be outside and was asking me to pet her all the time.

Now poor Buddy was left out in the cold and he actually slept over night under our lilac tree by the side of our house because he didn't want to leave her side. (I thought that was sweet but pretty unusual). I opened the door and he walked right in. He always wanted to go back out but he wanted to stay by her.

After about 3 weeks I noticed her tummy starting growing, really fast and then other days it would disappear. Then finally at the end of December her stomach was staying out and wasn't going away.

Just a few days ago it kicked me! I was so excited I didn't know what to do. I am happy because I was worried that something was wrong with her and her stomach was growing because she wasn't pregnant. But sure enough the little kitten kicked me.

I will keep you updated as soon as she starts to go into labor!
