Uh Oh!

by Lynn
(Nashville TN)

My little Savannah was given to me by a friend who asked if I would be willing to be a foster mom to a "kitten". She is a very sweet orange and white cat with lovely big yellow eyes and a sweet disposition. I brought her home and put her in the den where she could look out and have a bit of freedom while my other cat Sunny had the rest of the house.

I was told she was about 12 weeks old. She is really quite small but I felt she might be a bit older. Having never had a female cat, I was told that female cats act really crazy when they are in heat. Amused, but certainly not concerned I continued to care for this sweet new addition.

Within a week of having her here, I noticed some very strange behavior and reported it to the woman who brought Savannah to me. "I think she's in heat" I reported. Assured that it absolutely wasn't possible (she was far too young) I allowed my Sunny (who is neutered) and she to get to know each other a bit at a time.

One treat was to let them out in the small backyard to play. Assured that she wasn't in heat, despite a behavior pattern that seemed to confirm it, I let the two out in the backyard to play. After awhile, I let both cats in and sat on the couch to complete some notes from work.

About half an hour later, ready to go to bed I went to get the cats. Sunny responded, but nowhere was Savannah to be found. I called another friend who is also a cat owner, told her of my plight and was really frantic. I finally checked everywhere inside and outside, in the front of the house and the back with Savannah nowhere to be found.

Absolutely heartbroken, I opened the back door just in case she had somehow gotten out and saw Sunny start for the back door. I ran out and there was little Savannah climbing back over the very tall fence and landing in the backyard. I quickly swept her up and brought her back in, wondering how she could have gotten out.

Well, I noticed that she was much quieter and relaxed and I suspect she found herself a tom to ease her plight! It's been two weeks now and I'm pretty sure she's pregnant and she truly is just a tiny little girl! The call of nature is amazing!
