True love In Cats?

by (anonymous)

Question:
I have two unrelated cats, a male and a female niather of whom are fixed. They appear very fond of each other.

It's been strange since they've had their first litter. Whenever she's in heat, if another tom comes near the female, she shows no interest in him and the male gets very aggressive with the tom and fights him. The same thing is true for the female if another she-cat comes near the male.

Can cats fall in love and if so, is it normal for a cat to be this devoted to their mate?

Answer:
It's a pleasure to read such a story. I won't say it's common. Normally cats more or less ignore each other or just tolerate each other. Cats may sleep closely side by side, but it's likely they only do this because it's warm.

I have heard about "affectionate relationships" between cats like you describe, with a male showing protective behavior, but they are quite rare. I can only say: Enjoy and be happy with it!
