"I Never Knew She Was Preggers"
Tara from the UK came home after living abroad for six months. And then, all of a sudden, her cat Tinkerbell gave birth to a kitten. Well, this is more of a plea for an explanation than a story. My 10 month old kitten Tinkerbell is very loving with me but never with any of the rest of the family. I was living abroad for 6 months and returned home 3 weeks ago. My mother told me that Tinkerbell was very independent, just did her own thing and only acknowledged her whenever she was looking her meals. We always joked about it over the phone whenever I checked in. I, of course knew that Tinkerbell needed a lot of coaxing before she gave any affection anyway and my mum would have just given her a pet in passing. So, I arrived home. Dropped my bags. Went straight out the back garden door and called her! She came at me like a shot! All purring and excited. I was so chuffed that she missed me too. So we haven't been separated since. Mum never stopped telling me how different she was now that I was back. She's always inside-and so affectionate.Three nights ago, at 22:00. I had been rubbing her and petting her-mainly her belly-for well over and hour while I chatted on the phone to a friend when I found blood. I investigated and found a kitten halfway out!! She had been giving birth on my lap!! Firstly. She is my number one priority, so every little stage she has gone through has been overseen by the vet. This little surprise was NOT scheduled! My mother and I instinctively jumped into action. I grabbed her bed and a newspaper while my mother cleared the back corner of our living room. With her cradled in my arm. We placed her in her corner and stepped back-careful not to go too far. She was up like a shot yamming at me wanting help. She didn't understand what was happening. The only thing that calmed her was to be back in my embrace again-she's very spoiled by me. My mother was on the phone to our vet. She gave birth to two dead kittens, who were under developed. Now she is wandering around all the time. Mum thinks that she is looking for her kittens but she ate one of them. Plus, she is so thin. I'm feeding her up-her appetite is slowly increasing. I feel totally responsible. Although, we had a vet on the phone and instinctively knew what to do, I never knew she was preggers. She was always looking my attention. Wasn't hardly leaving our garden and her nipples had changed a tiny bit-I just thought that she was developing into an adult-It never occurred to me to do some research. She definitely wasn't eating enough for a pregnant cat! Plus, she went off of her food for a few days two weeks ago. She nibbled here and there but she wasn't her normal self. Even though she is still on kitten food-which is right for a pregnant cat- I think that her pregnancy failed due to my ignorance. Am I right? Also, I think I have made her too reliant on me?
