The Bree (Dog) and Tia (Cat) Story

It was September 21st 2007 when Tia, my heavily pregnant cat, became very cuddly towards me and Bree, our 4 year old female Staffy. Bree has never had a litter of puppies of her own. As she and myself laid next to Tia on the floor, her waters broke and she started to panic and meow.
Franticly being a mother myself, my instincts kicked in as I soothed her and calmed Tia down. The first kitten got stuck in the birth cannel as I gently removed the baby and noticed it wasn't breathing. So I did as I have seen on T.V.: rubbed it and breathed in the tiny kittens face.
It worked.
I placed the kitten next to me and our dog Bree took over as mummy and cleaned the baby. After Tia delivered her 2nd baby she climbed in to the cupboard so I placed her two baby's in with her and left her be. I went back 4 hours later and she had given birth to 5 beautiful baby's.
When I showed Bree she was so excited.
Tia had been raced to a vet as she was bleeding fresh blood two days after she had given birth. The vet said she needed a operation as she had a introverted uterus. She was away from the kittens for 3 days. My partner and I had to nurse the baby's but we were thankful: mummy Bree was on hand to help with the warmth and love they needed.
As the babies grew Bree acted like a 2nd mother to them and helped Tia. When the kittens fell off the nipples Bree would nudge them back on. And she would keep guard and no other animal was allowed near them not even the father for the first 6 weeks until poor Bree had her Paws full with 5 kittens running around the house.
We have kept 3 of the kittens and they are now 9 and a half months old and they are still really close to their mummy Bree.
We are expecting a litter of kittens in 4 weeks from Patch, one of the girls, and we hope Bree and Patch can share the same experience Bree and her mother did.
