Surprise!!

by Melissa Roub
(Milton, NH USA)

It was Saturday afternoon- my cat jumps up to drink from the faucet(weird I know). As she is drinking I realise my small cat looks large in the belly. I feel around, it feels firm and I can feel her nipple.

I told my husband I thought she was pregnant. Later that day he calls me and says he too thinks she may be pregnant by the size of her nipples. So I called the vet to have her seen. They said Monday afternoon.

On Sunday while I am laying in the bed she wants to get some attention. As I am petting her I notice her belly moving - I can literally feel her kittens! Crazy!

Monday morning I notice her laying in my childrens bathroom. When she notices me she starts meowing loudly. I leave and she follows me out - and starts following me everywhere! We leave for the morning and come home.

I look up online how to tell how far long your cat is - and how to tell when they go into labor. I was convinced she would have them that very day.

Around noon my husband and I are watching tv. My dog is freaking out outside so I let him in. He immediatley runs up stairs straight to my kids bathroom. As I am chasing him I hear my cat very loudly meowing at him. As I go into the bathroom my cat is standing with a kitten half out.

My husband comes up with the basket we had ready for her. We move her and kitten one into the basket. We sit there in amazement as she cleans her beauiful baby! After about 15 minutes she lays down and pushes - out comes flid - my 3 year old saw this and says she went pee - hehehe.

One big push and out comes kitten number 2 and what appears to be the placenta. She eats the cord and cleans the kitten up. I am amazed - as a mother of 4 this is nuts - it looks painless as she is not even crying or anything. We pat her as she cleans up the kittens.

When we think she is done we move the basket to a safer place - our bedroom. We prepare to leave for a few hours. When we had left she had 2 kittens. 2 hours after the birth of the 1st two we had my cousin check on her - she has two beautiful kittens and is feeding them!

I get home about 2 hours later and there is my beautiful mama with her 4 - yes 4 babies!
I am sure the next few weeks will be fun! WOW that whole thing was amazing!
