Shadow's Second Pregnancy
by Jacqueline
(UK)
My cat Shadow is due her second litter of kitties very soon. I don't know the expected date, as I don't know when she mated. I do know she has one of her sons from her first litter, Barney, who is nearly four months old.
It was a nightmare trying to keep Shadow in when she was in heat, but she has managed to get out. Funny thing is, the only cat I have seen her mating with, is our 3 year old neutered male, Socks.
I didn't know that neutered male cats still like to endulge in the other. I thought the neutering factor relieved them of this and I have been a cat owner for over twenty years!
Anyway she looks like she's ready to burst, her nipples aren't pink and weren't pink the first time either. She has two tones black and cream nipples much like a cow, but she was an excellent mother to her first litter of four boys
It looks like she'll have more this time otherwise they're going to be big heftys. She is lazing about a lot in her birthing box but still pops outside to see what the others are upto. She is still eating.
I actually thought she'd go into labour last night, but she's up and jumping around this morning again and eating as much as she can.
I have her on kitten food and have done so for the past couple of weeks, but I have a sneaky suspicion that she is eating the other food when out visiting the rest of our cat family four others.
Mia who is Sock's mum, Sooty our other neutered male who raised Mias two litters of kittens 5 and 6, as if he were the father. The kittens would suckly onto him, he has a wonderful nature, but he's getting older now and can't be bothered with Barney who wants to jump on top him.
Funny thing is Mia has really taken to Barney, whereas she can't stand Socks (her son) even going near her, they really are a funny lot. I will keep you all updated on Shadow's progress.
Picture is of Barney at 6 days old.
