Purrl's Vacation
by Desteni
(Ashland, KY)
I live in a no-pet apartment, but Purrl (my 13 month old female kitten) lives with me. About 3 weeks ago, a storm knocked out my bedroom window and my landlord was going to be in and out of my apartment for about a week. As such, I had to let Purrl stay with a friend of mine for that time.
Purrl had not been spayed, but had an appointment 3 weeks from then, so before leaving her with my friend, I asked that she not allow Purrl to be around her indoor/outdoor male cat. Well, about a week later when I went to pick her up, my friend began to tell me about how she let the two cats around each other and that the male had "tried to get to Purrl but never really did because Purrl fought him."
I'm not sure if she's ever seen cats mate before, but growing up on a farm, I probably would describe cats mating as looking and sounding like they were fighting. That was about 2 weeks ago now, and I'm wondering if she may be pregnant.
I brought Purrl back to my parents home over the past 2 weeks, so I haven't really been around her. She has been acting more affectionate and eating what seems to be more often, and she's not showing signs of being in heat. Also, her belly feels sort of hard but is not swollen, and I've not yet noticed any swelling or pinking of her nipples.
I need opinions on whether she may or may not be pregnant - which I would love but would not fall over so well with my parents, who we would be staying with over the summer as I wait for my senior year of college to start.
