About Meggers And Other
Pregnant Stray Cats

Tina Zielke sent this story and accompanying pictures. She took care of the kittens of a stray, and now also cares for Meggers – and she’s pregnant too!

Recently a stray gave birth to kittens outside, and had them under the porch. I own three cats, two males and a female (Picasso, DiVinci, and meggers, now known as preggo meggo.) Well the stray that had given birth, sadly was hit by a car leaving her kittens behind that were not weened.

The kittens were about 4-5 weeks old, and not accustom to humans, and were not too keen on the idea that me and my landlord were trying to get our hands on each of them. The poor things didn’t know what was going on.

We got all of them but one kitten that we later had to remove as it was curled in the corner and had passed by the time we had found a way to get to them.

Since then another stray also gave birth (there are ALOT of strays) and me and my landlord had a heck of a time running around after these frisky kittens trying to catch them. But they all were given there shots, and placed in good homes.

After we got them accustomed to people a little more, it was not an easy task for the second stray litter, as they were older and were determined humans were bad. But keeping them in a small area, and then quietly approaching them threw out the day with food and love and patience, they all became pretty attached to there human cuddling.

Meggers was also a stray. My friend Tara's dad owns a apartment building ... and one of the people who lived there owned Meggers. I guess when they moved they either couldn’t bring her with or didnt want to for one reason or another. So they just threw her outside and let her be.

When new people moved in, they didn’t like that this cat kept hanging around, so tried endlessly they said to drop her off in remote places, but she kept showing up. Sadly they ended up shooting her!

She got shot in the hind leg, and thank goodness because she is pregnant. When I took her to the vet after a couple weeks of having her in my home while she recuperated after getting the bullet taken out and her leg casted I found out she was expecting kittens!

I am not used to having a pregnant cat around. So this has gotten me really nervous, but extremely excited. I’m just afraid i’m gonna get attached to all the kittens and want to keep every last one of ‘em. (I was just gonna have Meggers for the weekend, but now she is stuck here for good as she has become my little side kick).

I don’t know how my other two neutered males are going to respond to the kittens. I have had them for over a year and since they were 8 weeks old. They were good with the older kittens that I had, but I don’t know exactly how they’re gonna respond to this.

I plan on keeping her away from the other two the closer she gets, because I just don’t want to take any chances.

Here are a few photos of the cutie pies, that were stray kittens.
