Pregnant or not ...???

by Lucia
(Jackson Hole, WY)

I have a story for you that does not include kittens yet :-)).

Our cat Lili is about 7-8 months old. We got her
from a local animal shelter after our previous cat Lulu got hit by car and died on the street. I blamed myself for it for a long time, because I let her go out to enjoy running and exploring thinking nothing can happen in our small town of Jackon Hole.

Little Lili (new cat) was found abandoned along with her little brother by the sewage canal, when she was only 3 weeks old. HOW CRUEL! People who dumped her on the street left her some solid food, but it was already gone when she was found. She was in a poor condition, so tiny...I do not think that she was able to eat any of that food at all, so probably some other animals cleared it up.

Lili is not a typical cuddly and loving cat, but she definitely has her morning times, when she runs to my bedroom, jumps on the bed and lies on my chest putting her head on my neck like a scarf - I'm loving it! ...feels so warm.

Few weeks ago she started doing weird sounds and we figured she was in heat. Once, she unfortunately managed to escape and got home another day "very happy". Since then the heat had stopped and we have noticed her belly has started growing. Is it because she is growing older, is it because we changed brand of her food or is she simply pregnant??? I wish she could tell us...

Today I visited this web site and read everything possible about cat pregnancy...now I am little wiser, but at the same time very concerned, because she is so young to be a mother.

We still have a little hope that she is not pregnant, but if she is, then we do everything to keep her and her little ones safe.

don't worry
by: Anonymous

don't worry about your seemingly great cat lili. We had a stray give birth under our shed one time and after we humanely trapped her and had her spayed our vet told us she was only about seven months old. Her four kittens are all very healthy right now and im sure lili will be fine if shes pregnant. About your cat lulu though please don't blame yourself. When my 6 month puppy was run over by my bus driver i blamed myself for months and it never did me any good

A good chance.
by: Anonymous

There's a good chance that she could be pregnant if she hasn't been spayed and you've let her out to roam. If she's been in heat she will have attracted every male cat in the area and it's so easy for cats to get pregnant..
Just look out for the typical signs - Increase in appetite, large belly and pink nipples.
