Pregnant Feral Cat

The pregnant feral cat that was left behind

The pregnant feral cat that was left behind

This is a story about a pregnant feral cat.

I moved into a house up in the hills and have a yard safe from Coyotes. One day a black & white cat appeared on the back porch. It was clear she was pregnant and a feral; when she saw me she ran but kept coming back as I would feed her.

She disappeared for weeks knowing I would feed her. She then disappeared. I thought the coyotes got her.

Months later she shows up; must of had her kittens somewhere as she was thin. Months past and she showed up with 5 kittens. All playing in the back yard. How cute they were but wild ferals they were as well.

After they ate dinner, they all took off with round tummies. Couple weeks later the mother cat returns with only 3 kittens, black/white, all black and gray stripped.

I was sad to think something bad happened to the other 3. I did the same, they ate and left again. Couple of weeks later, then they were 2.

When I would feed them I would stay outside by the bowl trying to make friends. I got both kittens to come into the kitchen to eat, the gray one would let me pet it when it was eating but very skittish.

This time they stuck around for several days. I woke up one morning to find that the mother cat took off with the black and white one and left the gray one behind.

That little kitten cried and cried looking for his mother; she never returned. I took care of her and still do.

My fiance is allergic to animals so I have a vacant room downstairs, I leave the window open and she comes in and sleep, eats as she pleases. Of course he tore up the toilet paper in that bathroom next to the room but that's the most damage he can do there.

He only allows me to pet and carry him but still runs if I don't talk before I approach or if he hears another voice. SHE IS STILL A CRY BABY until you pet or play with him!

I found someone to adopt him and he should be in his new home hopefully next week. Oh and he responds to "come here" that's his name until new owner gives him one.

pregnant wild cat
by: Pam

I have a wild pregnant cat in my yard. I have fed her since last fall. A month a go I noticed her tummy looked big. Today it is really big and I know she is pregnant. She comes when I call but she still will not let me get any closer than 8 feet from her. I am worried because last summer we had a lot of raccoons running through my yard. They killed my two ducks and I am worried that they will find the kittens when they are born. I wish I could trap the mom cat and put her in a safe place before the kittens are born. Any suggestions????

Good luck
by: Marc

Hi Cassidy, thanks for your story. Pregnant ferals often have a hard time as most people don't care about them, but luckily there are cat lovers like you. I'm glad you found someone to adopt the kitten and wish him (and you!) all the best.
