One Kitten Dead In The Morning

by Monica
(Newark Nj)

My cat delivered her kittens when the whole family was sleeping. They were either born on Wednesday at around 12:00 or Thurday at around 1:oo - 3:00. Who knows, we were sleeping.

The next morning, I go check on her in the basement and she had delivered her 5 kittens. It's so wonderful! They all come out alive.

Then 2 days later in the morning, I wake up, go check on all of them, and one kitten is dead! ='[
Now, I don't know what to do! I dont't understand how she died!

I'm so sad and I have her in a bag right now in a cloth. I don't know if I should burry her or take her somewhere to the vet so they can deal with it.
But my mom doesn't want to take the kitten to the vet, she said to just throw him out to the garbage or burry her! =[

HELP ME!!! PLEASE! I don't wanna burry her!

Something like that happened with my cat NEW
by: Rae

Hi sorry about the little kitten. I took in a stray that someone had just dumped at my farm, she's a super sweet pure white cat. We named her Snowbelle, it was pretty clear that sh was pregnant when we brought her in. A few weeks after she came inside I was siting on my bed and she came running in. She was carrying something in her mouth, I couldn't tell what it was at first. She jumped up beside me and dropped it on my lap. It was a little orange kitten and it wasn't breathing. She kept meowing at me and I tried to help but the kitten was dead. I felt really bad for her, she just didn't understand. I buried the kitten in my yard, but Snowbelle kept searching for the kitten for a few hours. Later that night she gave birth again, this time the kitten lived. This one was much smaller than the first. It looked just like her except for the dark stripe on the top of its head. We named the kitten Gizmo. About an hour after Gizmo was born a third kitten was born. It was black, but like the first one it died. Snow was very sad, but she took very good care of Gizmo. She became a little over protective. Gizmo was six months old before she stopped nursing and before her mother would let her go downstairs alone. (that is without coming to get her!)

almost exactly same thing happened here
by: kym

Almost the same events happened in our household just recently. My first reaction was shock.

The young mother had 3 kittens, everything seemed to be going fine after the birth, but on day 3 around 2 in the morning I awoke with a start (I think to a squeak), went out the the laundry and the firstborn kitten -- a beautiful and quite large white male with a black "dragon" on his back -- was dead.

Just an hour or 2 earlier he'd been apparently starting to explore and been experimentally chewing his paws.

I removed him from the nest, but left him nearby for a few hours in case mother wanted to inspect the body.

We had a little funeral at the bottom of the garden in the morning -- more for my feelings than anything else. ;)

The mother didn't seem to notice any problem right away.

Only after she moved her remaining kittens into the loungeroom a couple days later did she seem to notice something was not right.

There had been 3 big pains during birth, but now there seemed only 2 squirming lumps to move! :)

She keep going back to the laundry and sniffing around and whimpering. She could probably pick up some scent from the floor and matting out there. Part of the afterbirth had ended up outside the nest for her first delivery (i.e. the death kitten), when she didn't really know what was happening.

I did a bit more of a clean-up with bleach, but she kept going out there for a couple of days.

Everything has now returned to normal.
