Nermal's First Litter

by Parasomnus
(Calgary)

Nermal just had her first litter. She ran about a week late, which isn't anything abnormal for her line of queens. It was clear she was having trouble and holding them in, so we decided to give her some time alone.

We took the boy out of the house with us over to a friend's house (they're used to us bringing Nermal along, so having our boy instead was no problem for them).

We came home, and sure enough: Nermal was ready. She made it clear she wanted my help, so I carried her to the closet in the bedroom (the only secure and safe place close to us where she wanted to be but secluded enough), she went right into the box and began motioning for me to pet her.

Her water broke shortly after that and about 30 minutes later the first kitten came...but that's where the worst happened.

The first kitten in her first litter came out breach. A tiny tail appeared, and then with a strong push, a foot. But the foot kept going back in, and she couldn't seem to push the little one out.

So I began to help and it became clear where the problem was: he was literally clawing his way back up into the womb and fighting like a little tiger and he was huge. With some help from me, we got the little one out.

Momma was exhausted but pushed out a second about 30 minutes later. The third was an hour in coming which worried us, but she came out safe and fine. And the fourth wasn't far behind.

Now she's safe and happy with three tiny siamese kittens and a tabby. We're not sure which side had the tabby in it as the father is all white and the mother is a siamese, but there he is, the first little terror born. He turned out to be twice the size of the others at birth, but the others have caught up now.

They are only a few days old but already getting their siamese colors: two flame points and a chocolate with butterscotch markings on his body. Even the tabby is getting a darker nose. We will see if any of them get daddy's curled fur or odd-colored eyes when their eyes open next week.
