My Queen

by Emily
(St. Petersburg, FL USA)

It was just a regular night, nothing special really. I was just lying down in my bed watching TV. It was getting late, around 11 pm, so I turned off the TV and started to fall asleep.

Earlier that day I was seeing signs of nesting but I didn't think that my kitty was in labor! My cat's name is Peanut and she just turned one in October. Another thing is that my two cats don't get along, but about an hour before giving birth my pregnant cat, Peanut, looked to the other feline for affection.

Anyway, my cat jumped onto the bed and layed down on my leg. She acted like she was falling asleep. She had her head on her paw, but she kept making a weird movement with her stomach. I was half asleep until, "MMEEEEOOOOORRR."

Now, I read on your website that people who havn't even heard the sound of the pregnant cat about to give birth would know right away! I was very worried that maybe I was an exception. But, as soon as I heard that meow, I was positive that the first kitten was on its way!

Well, first I went to go get my mom who was sleeping in the other room. As soon as I came back into the room the first kitten was half out. But, when Peanut saw us she jumped off the bed and into the box we set up for her birth.

The thing is that she still had the baby half way out of her body on her jump down from the bed. The baby kitten dropped on the floor as she darted into the closet near-by.

We were very scared that the kitten was dead or would not survive. My mother picked the kitten up with a towel and put it by its mother. And sure enough he started searching for some warm milk.

Once the kitten started to dry we noticed that he is ORANGE! Now, that was kind of weird considering Peanut is gray!

We had no clue how many kittens she was going to have but an hour later another popped out. He is gray and black with a white nose and white paws.

It was getting late, 1:30 am, and I was very worried that there might be troubles ahead. Then all the sudden she starts licking around her bottom again. Sure enough there was another one and right after that, not even five minutes later, another one. They were both all gray and black, one with white paws.

We waited a while until we finally decided to go to bed. So there we went to bed with four kittens born.

We woke up in the morning and went straight to the kittens. We counted, 1...2...3...4...5!?!?!?!?!?! After we went to bed she decided to have another one! He is the runt. Still black and gray but with some really interesting markings.

We have only had one problem so far. Just this morning I came home to find the kittens not in their box. We found them in a different spot and put them back in the box and showed Peanut where they were.

I don't know if that was a good thing to do or not and I don't know why she moved them like that. The good thing is that she hasn't done that again.

It has almost been two weeks now and the kittens are all healthy and so is the mama. We hope it will stay that way and I am glad I could share my story with all of you!
