My Pregnant Stray?

by Victoria Biltcliffe
(Spain)

Hi, I moved to Spain with my husband three years ago from England. We brought with us two cats and after three months took in a stray dog from the streets, whom we named Harry and he soon became part of our family and lives quite happily with our cats.

Just before christmas 2007 we noticed a black cat coming into our garden and conservatory to eat our cats food. He looked very sorry for himself. After gaining his trust I was able to de-flea him, but he wouldn't and still doesn't let me touch him.

We also started to get another cat, a lovely white cat who let us touch her. She started coming to us regularly to be petted and then disappear for a couple of days. She then started coming more often and wanted to stay at night which we always put her out but left our closed in porch open in-case she couldn't get in at home.

After a couple of months we decided to put a collar on her with our name and phone number hoping the owners would contact us. After a month of waiting we took her to the vets to see if she was mircochipped, no luck she wasn't! We told the vet our story and decided to keep her and have her spayed, to our surprise, you have guessed it, she was pregnant. That was four weeks ago, we have made her a home in the porch so she cannot get out and she feels safe.

We are now waiting for the birth, our vet has said they will take the kitten once weaned and re-home them for us, good news!!, then we have her spayed. I have been looking on the web for all the information hoping that nothing goes wrong with her giving birth. I am quite nervous about the whole thing, not knowing how long she has to go. I sit with her and can feel the kittens moving around a lot which is lovely. All she does now is lie around a lot, getting fatter and fatter. I will let you know once she has the kittens and send a photo.

Anyone else going through the same thing and have any advice please let me know. Thank you.

My stray Queen "Rile"!!
by: Sherry

I am in a similar situation. About four weeks ago we discovered a cat in our backyard which was literally starving to death. She felt like a fur covered skeleton. She followed our son around like a puppy and cried constantly. My husband does not fancy cats but this poor beauty grabbed our heartstrings. We started giving her some food and asked everyone we knew if she had a home to go to. Of course being early spring...still cold and damp, I could no longer stand it. I let her in the house and began feeding her and my son named her "Rile". We contacted the area shelters, but because of the over-abundance of cats, they were going to put her down. I could not let that happen. Being low on money we were unable to get her spayed. Of course...little did we know, it was too late! The beauty is pregnant! I noticed she was gaining weight rapidly, but I just assumed that it was because she is eating well now!! Her nipples are bright pink since two weeks ago and I can now feel the lumps inside her moving around!!She only weighed maybe a pound and a half when we brought her in and now we see the sides of her belly all swollen with kittens! I did not want a cat at first and now I am awaiting kittens! What to do with them is my big concern.Any advice or tips would be welcome.

Update on Story
by: Victoria Biltcliffe

Hi I thought I would update you all, Our cat had her kittens on the 29th March, she had four three ginger and white all boys and one girl who looks just like her, they were all born within half an hour which was scary for me because I thought they had a bit of time between delivering the next one, I took a photo of them at one hour old all clean and feeding, she is such a good mum, they are really beautiful and I wiash I could keep them all, I am thinking about keeping the little girl. I am not sure how to post a photo of them, if anyone knows please let me know. Thank you
