My Cat Zoe Will Be A Mama

by Kim
(Maine, USA)

Zoe is my first cat. I have never really been a cat lover or really any animals for that matter. I grew up in a very abusive home and it's a miracle that we (the kids) survived, never mind any pets.

So anyhow, my kids have had fish, hampsters, lizards even rabbits. All of those however don't have very long life spans and my eight year old begged for a kitty for her birthday.

A woman who use to live in my neighborhood had a cat that she treated very poorly and has since been placed in a very good home, had kittens. I took the kitten way too early and had to bottle feed her for weeks but I was more afraid to leave her where she was at a couple of the other babes had already been stepped on it was a really bad situation.

So after weeks of bottle feeding and lots of cuddling Zoe became a member of our family and we all love her dearly.

I always planned on having her "fixed" but I really thought that I had some time to do that. I really didn't think that a cat under a year old could become pregnant and since she was SUPPOSED to be an indoor cat I had no worries!!

Zoe went through one heat and did fine. It scared the hell out of me because I had never seen such a thing but she did wonderfully. No babies the first time and she had snuck out several times.

The second heat didn't go so well. She was more determined than last to get out and started acting differently almost immediately.

She is only 11 months old I feel so bad. I know she will be getitng fixed as soon as she is able to and I hope that she gets through it ok.

She really has no desire to go out anymore only to go to the bathroom and then she's right back in. She hanngs out in my room all the time, so weve emptied my closet and hope that she has the babes there.

I'm terrified and have read so many things good and bad. I think that she is too young to know what to do does anyone have any feedback??

I know that this was completely irresponsibilty on my part and I don't need a lashing just some helpful hints to get my Zoe through this as easily as possible. Thanks for listening!

i have had many cats give birth and im only 14 i have learned the cats have a natural instinct for motherhood they know what to do even though at first they maybe confused instinct will take over all you can do is leave her alone check on her occasionally while she is giving birth, and have a vet's number on hand just in case something happens.hopefully you will have new kittens soon good luck
