My Cat Sheila Needed Me

by Angela
(Australia)

I was really bothered about the impending birth of kittens. Unfortunately our cat is only 12 months old, so I was worried more about the cat as well.

I have been reading so much on this web site to help us prepare, also I really had no idea when they were due.

However this morning, on my daughters birthday, my cat woke me at 5.30 by LYING in my arms in bed, and would not leave my side. When I eventually got up she led me meowing LOUDLY to her nesting box, and lay in there on Her back as I stroked Her, she kept guiding my hand onto Her belly.

This was strange as over the last month, this was a no go area. As I gave Her a quick stroke and carried on making an early morning cuppa, she again meowed, meowed until I went back to her box. This pattern continued, She clearly wanted me to sit with Her.

As I got everyone off to school and work, I sat with Her, and low and behold the first kitten arrived, meowing as soon as it came out. The second one was a bit more difficult, came out backwards.

I panicked as Sheila was already panting, and was not quick enough to remove the sack, so I parted all the sack from the face and the kitten took its first breath.

Number 3 was a breeze, and also came out face first, meowing.

At this point I had to go to work but popped back to check on Her, and I was amazed to see she was actually lay with 4 kittens in all, so proud and purring when she saw me, as if she was so proud.

It was a very moving moment.

Angela.
