My Cat Is Pregnant And I Am Clueless ...

My cat is pregnant ... I would say around 6 weeks maybe. I am very worried as she is my first cat and this is her first litter. I am scared I will fail her and I also have a newborn baby, so I'm scared of the risks of tox from the excretion of the kitties.

I want to be the best midwive possible for her. Please if anyone can help email me: punkimoo@yahoo.co.uk

I need to know the signs of when she's about to deliver etc. and how many she could be pregnant with?? Thank you for reading .. very appreciated.

The first sign of cat labour will be a small amount of discharge coming out of your cat. It will normally come out in v.small amounts and v.slowly but every cat is different I suppose.
From then on just keep an eye on your cat, try not to leave her alone as it's probably comforting for her if you're there. From then the cat will probably start getting more and more uncomfortable until a sac starts to be released from the back. At first I thought this was a kitten but it turned out to be a watery sac which simply needed to burst. From then on the kittens should start appearing :)
She'll probably start howling in pain, it's quite distressing but she'll get through it.
Just be there for her and make sure she eats every placenta that comes out with the kitten as 1 left inside her could cause serious infection.

I just got off the phone with my vet and he said about 58-71 days a cat is ready to deliver...my cat got pregnant on march 26th 2008 my son's birthday...what a present..lol...anyways....they said to watch for them to scout for a place to have their kittens..and to listen for them to howl..i'm guessing they meant when they first went into labour...also they like to have their kittens in a covered box with a whole half way up or so for the mother so that the kittens can't get out also they like to shred paper or an old towel or something to make the nest for the kittens after that you can use an old blanket for the kittens ....sorry i can't tell you more but keep me posted...and let me know how the kittens make out....angie
