Little Cat Has 6 Kittens!

Aurora's little miracles
My son brought home a very small female cat. He said that his friend was going to throw it out his car window, while he was driving, because he didn't want to find a home for it. My son just happened to be in the car at the time. He says, "Don't do that! My mom will be very angry, if she ever found out!" Given the circumstances.
I have now adopted this little female cat. Her name is Aurora! She's so small, she looks like a kitten herself. She doesn't weigh more than 2 lbs. I thought she would get bigger, but she is almost 2 years old and hasn't changed at all!
Anyways, Aurora likes to go outside. I have another male cat too. I have had him fixed and declawed, because I wanted him to be indoor cat. Since I thought Aurora was still a kitten herself, I didn't rush her to the vet to be checked out. I wasn't even sure if I was going to keep her. I just couldn't stand the idea of her fate. So, I kept her around for a month to see how she did.
Before I had the time to take her to the vet, she goes into heat. That's when I realized, she was not a kitten, but a full grown cat! She started to run away, but she would aways come back again. Since I couldn't seem to keep her in the house, I decided I didn't want to declaw her. I did plan to fix her though.
One day, she runs away for about a month. I thought she had either found another home or she wasn't coming back again. She came home, but her belly was swollen. I knew she was pregnant. I started to put food outside for her. She would be outside every morning, when I left for work. If not out in my driveway, she'd be sitting on the hood of my car. She didn't want to come in the house, but I knew she was hungry. As her stomach grew, she started to come around more frequent.
Finally, I just opened the door and invited her in. She willingly took to my hospitality. She gets along really good with my male cat. His name is Castor. Castor is almost 3 yrs old and he's a really big Tom cat! He probably weighs 10 lbs! As I felt Aurora's belly, I could feel the little kittens moving around. I knew it wouldn't be long, before she was going to have them.
I started to read up on the gestation period for cats. I find out that they're only pregnant for about 2 months. Since she had ran away for a month. I had been feeding her outside for about 2 weeks. I knew, it wouldn't be long, before she had them.
I prepared a large box for her with plenty of blankets. She stayed indoors. She didn't try to run away again. She felt content and safe in the house. She knew the time was near. I knew it too. She had come home to have her kittens!
On June 2, 2010, around 5:30am, as I sat at my computer reading the daily news, before work. My cats always sitting near me as usual. Aurora lets out a bellowing cry! I look at her and she's in pain. I knew she was in labor. I push her towards the large box that I had prepared for her.
I was so excited that the time had come, I went upstairs to wake up my son. I wanted to share it with him. Of course, he's a teenager, so he wasn't a bit interested! As I come downstairs, she's in my dining room. She tried to follow me. I could see she's getting ready to push those kittens out right there on the dining room floor.
I call for her to get back into the box. She does as I instructed and I watched her deliver the first kitten! It was a beautiful experience! As I watch, she delivers 3 more within a half hour. I had to leave for work that morning, so I couldn't stay with her. She didn't seem to be having any problems, and I thought she was done. She had 4 kittens, before I left for work. I just couldn't wait to get home from work that day!
When I came home from work, there were 6 beautiful little kittens! She was nursing and caring for them the way a good mother cat should! She wouldn't leave the box for any reason. She didn't eat, drink or even go to the litter box. I was concerned about her, because it had been 16 hours, since her delivery and she wouldn't leave those little kittens to care for herself, but I didn't intervene.
I figured she knew what was best for her kittens. I just left her alone. By the next morning, she still hadn't left the box. I knew she didn't want to leave them at all. So, before I left for work, I prepared a bowel of food and water. I put it right outside the box. She jumped out of the box so fast, it scared me! She started to devour the food! She was starving! Of course she was, she had just gave birth to 6 little munchkins and she's just thinking about them!
It was funny to watch, because as she devoured the food, she kept her tail in the box! It was if, she was so concerned about not leaving their side, she would of starved herself for their safety.
By the 3rd day, she started to venture out of the box, but she was always close by. I would peek in on them. I had changed the blankets on the second day, because they were all wet and dirty from blood. I felt sorry for them, because they were laying in all of that after birth. The box was disgusting! She didn't seem a bit alarmed, when I was cleaning up and moving them around. She did become very nervous, when my son or his friends came near the box.
Today, they are now a week old. I have been checking on them. I have even picked them up already. Aurora still purrs and cares for them, as I pet and gaze at them. She knows I mean no harm! She feels completely comfortable with me around her babies. She doesn't mind if I pet, touch or hold them either. I won't take them out of the box though. I always keep them near her.
She's a good momma cat! And her babies are beautiful! I'm very glad everything worked out the way it did! The question now is... What am I going to do with all of these little baby kittens??
