First Time

by Ashley Miller
(P.A.)

My cat Duchess had her kittens for the first time at about a little over a year old. We both didn't really know she was having kittens until I picked her up and I saw the first kittens head coming.

Well, after that I made her come and lay in the hay in a dark corner. Then the first kitten came, and about 10 minutes later another one came. I walked away for a while and then came back and realized that she wasn't only eating the placenta but the kittens and if I didn't stay by her when she went into labor she followed me.

Well, she ended up eating all her kittens. They were alive and had a little fur but she still ate them for some reason. Well now Duchess is doing fine but she is still very affectionate and I think pregnant again. Hopefully she will realize this time and not eat them.

my pregnant Sissy Cat
by: Anonymous

My cat Sissy is 6 weeks pregnant. How long is a cat pregnancy?? How many weeks?? I have no idea. The Daddy cat is named Skittles and they really love each other! It is sooo cute. I hear some horror stories about cats eating their babiues or the father cat eating them?? Is this normal?? My friend had a pregnant cat and the daddy cat was drinking her milk while she wasw pregnant! Ended up with all stillborn kittens and then the moimmy dies! I work all day and now am afraid to leave them alone together? Any advice??

this may help if your with her the second time round...ive seen this before, it was a dog, but still it seemed to work.....

she could of eaten them because they were deformed or something was wrong. or maybe she could just be a bad mother or possibly-being a first time mum, she didnt know what to do very well and was really stressed and as a result of that stress just ate everything that came out...you will never know what her real intentions were.

but if she is pregnant again, if u can watch her give birth and even if its inconvenient, if your there at the start of the birth, dont leave her. like u can give her space and step back but keep an eye on her.

if she starts to eat the kittens again just step in and take the kittens and if u want to you could prepare a box or basket for them, just in case of a repeat. just put a soft blanket or old towel and if she tries to eat them, take them and put them in it, gently clean them if u have to though. and when shes finished giving birth and finished cleaning herself.

try to show them to her if shes aggressive towards them, then dont leave her unsupervised with them, and ring a vet and ask their advice STRAIGHT away. they may be able to tell you how to look after them or introduce her to them properly without getting aggression, or be able to tell you your options on where you can take them if you dont want to hand raise them on your own... hope it helps, but hopefully for your sake, she is good this time and doesnt go eating them like her first time round :)

Your first time
by: Speckals

Don't worry when speckals had her fist birth she was about to eat them because they were deformed but we got them in time. We have another cat named Samantha she had 4 healthy baby kittens. And then she ran away for 2 monthes and came back but she was pregnant when she was gone but no sight of the kittens yet. Know they both have healthy kittens. The only reason for your cat to eat her kittens is either they were deformed or something was wrong with them. Hope this helps you. :)
