She gave birth... by: Elfnow
My question was posted just now, though QueenKatie (as she came to be called) is now long past delivery.
Katie would not let me leave her side, and would have given birth on my lap if I'd let her. She ended up giving birth on my couch a week after coming into my home. She had five kits, though one was stillborn. The still kit's placenta was not calcified at all, the umbilicus was completely white; this lead me to believe that the kitten was premature and had already passed in utero.
Of the surviving kits, three were girls, and one was a boy. The boy was the fifth born, he was breech, and she needed help!! He got stuck by his fat little head! It took Katie four big pushes to get him mostly out, and then another SIX!! contractions and pushes (minutes!!) to finally push his head out. While Katie pushed and paced, I tried to give her perineal massage and support the kitten's body.
Mambo came out with a giant splat and rush of fluid...I was so amazed when he took a big breath and blew a giant snot-bubble. I kept the three girls huddled together with a warm towel, and put them back with Katie as soon as she laid down next to Mambo to clean him.
The kittens and Katie stayed with me for another three weeks, and then went to the Sand Springs, Oklahoma Humane Society to be placed into forever homes.
Katie will live forever in my heart, that pretty girl who knew I could help. :)
