Your cat or kitten should wear a collar with an ID tag all the time. Even if your cat stays indoors! It is always possible your kitty finds a way out one day. Especially during cat pregnancy a queen might want to slip out to find a place to give birth. An extra reason to get a tag! Cat tags are not expensive and easy to get. You can buy them in your local pet store. Some tags have a light that make your cat visible in the dark. This can save your cat’s life if it’s outside and crossing a road. Another way to get your lost pet back is microchipping.
If you want to visit or move to another country, a microchip is often required to get your cat imported. Unfortunately this chip can only be read by a special scanner. Vets usually have this equipment, ordinary people don’t. So if your cat is lost and found, but not brought to the vet, the chip will never be read. Unlike microchips, cat tags can be read by anyone. So get a tag first and if you like a microchip later, and your cat’s chance of returning home will increase considerably. Remember to replace an ID tag when you move to another house or change your phone number.
