Can A Cat Get Spayed Right After Delivery?

Question:
Since a female cat can come into heat soon after she has kittens, can she be spayed right away and still come home and nurse her kittens?

Answer:
You can better postpone spaying a cat who has just become a mom. The safest is to wait till she has stopped milk production. It usually lasts up to two weeks after the kittens are weaned. Spaying a cat right after delivey can lead to different complications such as additional bleeding or milk flowing into the incision site.
