Can a Cat Get Spayed During Pregnancy?

by Pauline Morgan
(Victoria)

Question:
When a cat is pregnant, can it get desexed?

Answer:
Yes, it is possible but there are a few things to consider. You can spay a cat during pregnancy but there is a point when it's too late for that because of the size of the kittens and risks to the mother. When a cat is pregnant her tissues are more fluidy so there is a greater chance of infection developing.

Spaying a pregnant cat is more or less the same as abortion. Therefore it is also your personal decision if you let it happen.
