Can a Cat Get Pregnant During The First Heat Cycle?

by Cassie
(California)

Question:
Does a cat HAVE to go through her first heat cycle to get pregnant? And can I get her "fixed" before her first heat cycle?

Answer:
It is not necessary your cat has had her first heat cycle before she can get pregnant. It can already happen the very first time.

It's not true that a cat should have a litter first before she's spayed. She also does not have to go into heat first. If your kitten has reached the age of six months it can be spayed without much risk.
