I have a cat and she had her first litter at nine months with one of her brothers. Before I could move them inside they were killed by a raccoon :( She is 16 months now and she just got pregnant with another cat. Is there going to be a problem between her brother and the kittens? What risks are there if I keep her outdoors during the pregnancy?

Curious by: Anonymous
I was curious about this as well. I have two young cats that are brother and sister, they are only about five months old and the female has not yet been in heat. I have heard of related cats mating and I was wondering what kinds of problems it might cause for the kittens in the future, if they have their own kittens. I want to leave both of the cats the way they are naturally, not spaying or neutering either of them, but I am slightly concerned about the possibility of inbreeding. Is there anything I can do to avoid this, besides going to extremes like spaying and neutering? And if it did happen, would the offspring's possible future kittens suffer from it?

Cat Inbreeding by: Anonymous
My cat has had kittens by her brother of the same litter twice, and I haven't seen any defects. I'm sure that there is an increased chance of defects, but not like two human beings inbreeding would. Because if you think about it, a human has more personality/visible physical traits than a cat does, so there's more for you to notice should a defect pop up than in a feline. Like I said, I've yet to notice any problems with them.

Inbreed kitten by: Anonymous
I had a kitten once that was an inbreed. He acted normal at first but after a couple months he started having teeth grow out the side of his gums and got a lot of weird twitches. I brought him to a farm and let him chase the mice which kept him happy. He only lived til about 2 yrs old.

SPCA told me to abort by: Anonymous
I am having the same issue. I have a male and female cat from the same litter. My female just went into her first heat and the male got to her...and still won't leave her alone. I talked to my local SPCA and they told me that I should abort the pregnancy if she does get pregnant from it. I would feel horrible doing this. Can the kittens and mother be in a lot of danger if I were to let it go? I know the risks, but I just don't know what to do!
