Babies At Risk Because Mother Cat Is Small?

by Sarah Green
(Independence, Missouri)

Question:
When I found my kitty Tegan a year she was very small and malnourished. She is still very small (malnourishment stunted her growth?) and I have recently found out that she is pregnant. Are her babies at risk?

Answer:
If Tegan has been eating well since you started to take care of her, there should be no problem - at least not because of her size. Her overall physical condition is much more important. It's like with people. A small woman can have perfectly healthy babies, just like bigger women.
