A Great Start To 2008...
It was New Years Eve night!
"Bye, Mom! Bye, Alwyn!", I called to my sister and mother as they left the house to go to a party, "Hey, watch for Athena...!"
Too late. The small speckled tabby ran out the door before we could catch her.
"Its O.K.," my mom reassured me, "she'll probably want to go inside soon."
After they left my brother, my dad, and I had a relaxing New Years Eve: we watched the ball drop, and drank sparkling grape juice, but soon I was starting to get worried about Athena.
Wearing nothing but a bathrobe, I went out in the cold to retrieve my kitty. When I stepped outside, I heard loud moans from next door-- oh, no, Athena never leaves our front lawn! I raced next door hoping to find her in the bushes, but it was so dark I couldn't see anything! Under the street lamp I could just barely see the black and white tom that roams our neighborhood's shadow run across the street. I panicked-- even more desperate to find Athena. I couldn't find Athena and pretty soon I was so cold I couldn't stand it!
I walked back inside, only to realize that I was locked out and my brother was asleep and my dad was taking a shower! Not a very good way to start the new year, huh?
The next morning I went outside to find Athena. Whenever Athena goes outside over night she usually goes under the house to sleep, so I checked.
She came out with sleepy eyes and dust on her fur. I was so happy! Petting her, I told her how happy I was that she was O.K. Athena turned her head to look back under the house, and coming out of it was the black and white tom! I stumbled backward, shocked. Athena purred, and as if to say, 'It's O.K., I love him!', she nuzzled him lovingly. I then scooped up Athena and ran back to the house.
Sure enough, Athena was showing all the signs of pregnancy, and on March 8th she had three beautiful kittens!
After we gave away the last kitten, Athena got out again! And on her very first day of heat! I heard crying at the door later that day, and when I opened it, Athena was there with her "boyfriend" as if he walked her to the door!
Now Athena suddenly isn't in heat and is showing signs of pregnancy... Oh, well, Athena was a great mother last time and will be even better this time! But I promise this will be her last litter.
