3 Kittens Born Sept 10, 2009

by Melanie
(New Hampshire, USA)

What a nightmare this was!

My cat Bella, who is a little over a year, came and got me while I was watching a movie. She had me follow her into the closet; where we had placed some towels and blanks and even a basket if she wanted, a place just for her.

I followed her and pet her but shortly left. She came back and got me and I ended up staying with her while she was in labor for about an hour. Until she decided to leave the closet with a kitten hanging out of her and travel into the open living room. She seemed so confused as to what was going on.

Needless to say she ended up having them in the middle of the living room. The first two came within 10 minutes apart from each other.

Me and my boyfriend decided it was time for bed, this was about 2:00am now and we both had work early. However, Bella would NOT let us leave her. So I ended up sleeping on the couch next to her. I ended up waking up to little kitten meows, and turned on a small light and there was one more!

It was all so nerve recking because this was her first litter, she is young and small, and my boyfriend and I have never experienced a cat birth before.

I am just hoping she takes care of them like she is supposed to while we are at work. She seems to be doing okay though.

Another concern is that we have another cat, he is a male, however he is fixed and Bella is his best friend. He seemed to stay back last night and keeps his distance, however I'm worried, I don't want him to hurt them. He is a pretty loving cat.

We had Bella from when she was 9 weeks and then we introducted Jethro who we got from a shelter when she was 6 months. He was a year and a half, and they loved each other from day one, with no problems or hissing! So I'm hoping he will accept her family.

Thanks for letting me share my story!
